About This Typing Test
What is WPM?
WPM means words per minute. TypeString counts every 5 correctly typed characters as one word, then divides by the minutes elapsed. The same formula drives the live number during the test and your final result.
What is a good typing speed?
It depends on the task. Casual typing is often 30 to 50 WPM, everyday computer use is closer to 50 to 80 WPM, and experienced typists can pass 100 WPM. Accuracy matters as much as raw speed, since a fast result full of errors isn't really faster.
How is accuracy calculated?
Accuracy is your correctly typed characters divided by your total typed characters, shown as a percentage. It reflects your current text exactly, so fixing a mistake with Backspace removes that error from the count.
Is my typing saved?
No. Everything is measured locally in your browser, and the text you type is never uploaded, stored, or sent to analytics. Your personal best is saved only on this device using your browser's local storage, and is never transmitted anywhere.
